Now need to test again on my server (with full planet [11:09:10] ) [11:09:24] anf good morning guys 🙂 [12:46:33] is there any way to fir the map of the whole europe in 2gb? like compressing or less detailed maps? [12:46:58] hi @jkoan, always those small things :-( [12:50:12] <@$501233906863833090> [12:51:08] <@$501233906863833090> any of you who can hep me?' [12:51:22] how do I always mess up the pinging [12:57:40] hi @Sopy, this could probably be done when converting the map yourself and leaving out most of the buildings, polygons and such (only keeping the necessary stuff). I curently are working on a new exporter for maps.navit-project.org, but this one wouldent support it. About compression, the Navit binfile format is basically a zip file with compressed binary data in it, so yes, its already compressed, so no [12:57:41] optimisation there [12:59:33] hmm [12:59:35] got it [12:59:50] thanks a lot for that :) [13:01:08] i will consider to put in a minimal map option into the new map extractor, but this will require additional processing on the mapserver, so i need to see if this is even possible [13:01:34] I guess I'll have to try some other solution then as I got no idea how to compile my own map :) [13:02:45] the programm to do so is named maptool (written by us). Basically you get a bbf file and tell maptool to convert it [13:04:14] why do you want to get the map down to 4GB in the first place? [13:05:54] because I got just a 2gb sd card [13:06:34] and I am not sure I could put anything on it bigger than 4gb [13:06:59] cuz the navigator supports only fat32 format [13:08:18] but fat32 can fit more than 32GB, but probably the internal card reader does not support larger sizes [13:08:58] I tried a 16gb sd card and it din't get reconised so idk [13:09:06] maybe [13:09:30] i am currently crafting a rule file to test your case and see how much space we can shave off [13:16:06] if you manage to pull it off I'd be amazed :) [14:14:11] so far i only shaved off 2MB of 255MB, much less than expected [14:26:25] ah now i got it. forgot a cmd-line option, got from 255MB to 93MB [14:30:37] assuming this ratio keeps the same acros europe it would still be ~5600MB [14:45:02] @Sopy so far i am really impressed how good the map still looks while removing so much ob the details [14:45:58] only POIs, streets and water ways left [14:45:59] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/500190750085087235/794939546109476864/unknown.png [14:46:40] another one with more streets [14:46:40] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/500190750085087235/794939722958766120/unknown.png [14:47:09] and btw, this also makes navit faster by having less data to process [14:54:15] this would be a compleatley new feature, but i also thougt about a option to simplify me geo data itself future by using https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramer%E2%80%93Douglas%E2%80%93Peucker_algorithm [15:18:04] @Sopy https://gist.github.com/jkoan/474eeea01b5d14331b036eb6ca4dffbf here is what i came up with so far [15:28:51] hmm [15:29:00] thanks a lot [20:25:26] @Sopy i did run the same settings for germany and the result is that germany is normaly about 2,5GB and the minified version is only 924MB so about 0,37 % of the original [20:37:22] yeah this was really helpful I got a good chunk of neighbouring countries my dad is probably gonna have to go to on the navigator after getting maps minified... still not the whole Europe but I'd be ungrateful to ask for more, thanks a lot. :) @jkoan [20:39:40] will see if i get more ideas in the comming days/weeks 😄 [21:03:44] *** Quits: ilovekiruna (~ilovekiru@ip1f129c09.dynamic.kabel-deutschland.de) (Read error: Connection reset by peer) [21:13:23] *** Joins: ilovekiruna (~ilovekiru@ip1f129c09.dynamic.kabel-deutschland.de) [21:13:23] *** ChanServ sets mode: +v ilovekiruna
