I am editing my area in OSM. OSM shows the new sets a few minutes later, but NavIT maps generator seems not to create the bin files from runtime, but from a cache, that needs some time to get new sets from OSM. Can somebody confirm this? 15:33 < inoculator> And another question, that is unanswered from the "allwissende Müllhalde" called Google: Is it possible to generate maps for NavIT using MOBAC? 16:19 < PaulFertser> tryagain: ok, so from a quick look it seems that gui_internal_search_idle() is getting called by the Gtk mainloop when idle but it uses search_list_get_result() (synchroniously) and that can't be interrupted, can it? 16:55 < inoculator> H.E.L.P... where do I find this "maptool" file? It is not on my Android and I havn't found it in any downloadable package from the project. 16:56 < PaulFertser> inoculator: maptool is available from the navit package. 16:56 < PaulFertser> inoculator: it's part of the navit sources. 16:56 < PaulFertser> inoculator: have you tried simply apt-get-installing navit on your host? 16:58 < inoculator> PaulFertser: I am sitting in front of a Windows box. Do I need to launch my Ubuntu? I am a little confused. 16:58 < PaulFertser> inoculator: windows box, meh :) 16:58 < PaulFertser> inoculator: no idea then :) 17:00 < PaulFertser> inoculator: http://packages.debian.org/sid/maptool 17:00 < inoculator> PaulFertser: doesn't surprise me. Just load http://download.navit-project.org/navit/src/svn/ 17:00 < PaulFertser> inoculator: ahem? I have the sources cloned, so? 17:01 < inoculator> hmm... so maptool is a standalone dabian package? 17:02 < PaulFertser> inoculator: i'd say there exists a package "maptool" in Debian repository that contains the "maptool" utility which is part of the navit. 17:03 < inoculator> PaulFertser: jep. So until you get another result, you're frozen. As for me, it doesn't seem to have too much perfomance impact. 19:09 < tryagain> For example, on Windows search perfomance is affected by idle() being called every 100 ms. 19:09 < PaulFertser> tryagain: doesn't this one contradicts with what you told me earlier? 19:10 < tryagain> Results come for me faster than I type. So it's practically doesnt matter (for me). 19:11 < PaulFertser> tryagain: are you searching for something in a big city? 19:12 < tryagain> I've tried with your sample for Moscow, been entering for the test letters 'Ка' 19:13 < PaulFertser> tryagain: what's your hardware? 19:17 < tryagain> inoculator if you read logs. Windows version of maptool should be included in cmake builds, http://download.navit-project.org/navit/win32_cmake/svn/ . There's no maptool in packages from http://download.navit-project.org/navit/win32/svn/ 19:18 < tryagain> I was testing on oldy desktop, Celeron 2.4, 1,2Gb of RAM. 19:21 < PaulFertser> tryagain: my ac100 has 512Mb RAM and 1GHz ARM Tegra2 CPU, my FR is 400MHz armv4t with 128Mb of RAM. A non-interruptible search doesn't seem to be like a wise thing to do. Even on n900. 19:23 < tryagain> PaulFertser Re-tested it on HTC Wildfire S, 800Mhz CPU. I'm able to interrupt search when entering above two letters. 19:24 < tryagain> And results come much faster than interactive. 19:25 < PaulFertser> tryagain: hm, can you probably explain what exactly is getting interrupted? Am i wrong in my understanding of the code? 19:26 < tryagain> Well, when I enter more letters, it really looks like it have been hanged. 19:28 < tryagain> It can be interrupted between *_idle() calls, i.e. between search two results being returned. 19:33 < PaulFertser> tryagain: so do you confirm the user experience is not that pleasant with a less capable device? 19:37 -!- arnotixe [~arnotixe@cl-205.udi-01.br.sixxs.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds] 19:37 < tryagain> As you noted, street search has some drawbacks, and low perfomance is not worst of them. Unability to search for some streets (and housenumbers, if you go further) made it unuseable for me. I use that search for cities only, and then use POI filtering. 19:37 < tryagain> If you have expirence and time to help improving the search, you're always welcome ;) 19:41 < PaulFertser> tryagain: and energy...
