I tried a few things yesterday, and I'm ready to say that the effect I had on my Cat Nova (Android 2.3) with routing taking several minutes was caused by larger areas covered by several maps (Germany + Nordrhein-Westfalen + two customized maps). 07:49 < Eldkatten> A bit overlapping at the borders between countries seems to be no problem. 07:50 < ventYl> so geofabrik's maps were ok? 07:53 < Eldkatten> didn't try them yet. Thanks for the link though. I used the predefined maps from Planetextractor. There their is a small overlap at the borders of each country to allow navigation on the other side without having to load the entire map. But this seems to have no effect on routing speed. Multiple covering of large areas by several maps is the prolem. 07:56 < Eldkatten> I have a new (little) problem, though: very long distance seems not to route. Location is Aachen, Germany. Route to: Odense works, Copenhagen works, Malmö works, Göteborg works, but: Stockholm doesn't work. No big problem, though, one wouldn't drive those distances in one piece anyway 07:57 < ventYl> i thought that planet extractor extracts rectangle covering whole country, not just exact country area 07:58 < Eldkatten> if you make your own map, it's allways rectangular, right. But there are predefined maps which follow the borders with a few kilometers margin outside. 08:00 < Eldkatten> strange, though: I just tried it again, and it shows a rectangle containing the selected county. Sorry, maybe I'm wrong and I'm using the geofrabrik maps already. The maps I use are definately following the borders 09:17 -!- Eldkatten [4fe07a3f@gateway/web/freenode/ip.79.224.122.63] has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds] 09:30 -!- _asyn [~timon@router.floor-15.equinoxe.de] has joined #navit 09:30 -!- _asyn [~timon@router.floor-15.equinoxe.de] has quit [Client Quit] 09:31 -!- _asyn [~timon@router.floor-15.equinoxe.de] has joined #navit 09:37 -!- Eldkatten [6d540eed@gateway/web/freenode/ip.109.84.14.237] has joined #navit 09:41 -!- Eldkatten [6d540eed@gateway/web/freenode/ip.109.84.14.237] has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds] 10:05 -!- drlizau [~liz@billiau.net] has joined #navit 10:17 <@cp15> Yes, the planet extractor always gives you an rectangular area, so you will have some parts of the neighbour countries (and even some objects outside of the rectangle) 10:18 <@cp15> Usually that is no big problem, unless you download more than one rectangle and they are intersecting 10:20 < ventYl> was it big problem to crunch geofabrik's files? 10:20 < ventYl> they are updated on daily base 10:21 <@cp15> You can try this ones: http://deelkar.dev.openstreetmap.org/maps/ 10:24 <@cp15> When Eldkatten is back someone could ask him whether the recalculation problem is also gone now. I assume yes 10:26 <@cp15> But even with the geofabrik extracts there will be problems with overlapping: There are some roads that lie on the boundary... To which area do they belong? 10:29 < ventYl> i think that this behavior relies on decision of extraction tool 10:30 < ventYl> and i experience that ways which have points on both sides of boundary are in extract they will be in both extracts 10:31 < ventYl> rule is: everything inside and also everything which belongs to it 10:31 < ventYl> but in such case overlap will be minimal as cases of roads overlapping policital boundaries are relatively rare 10:55 -!- _asyn [~timon@router.floor-15.equinoxe.de] has left #navit [] 11:40 -!- playya [~playya@unaffiliated/playya] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer] 11:41 -!- playya [~playya@unaffiliated/playya] has joined #navit 13:01 -!- arnotixe [~arnotixe@190.131.183.143] has joined #navit 13:05 -!- playya [~playya@unaffiliated/playya] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer] 13:06 -!- playya [~playya@unaffiliated/playya] has joined #navit 13:23 -!- drlizau [~liz@billiau.net] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 13:39 -!- Eldkatten [58d9c7aa@gateway/web/freenode/ip.88.217.199.170] has joined #navit 13:40 < Eldkatten> Hello.
