Is it worth to try moving coastlines some steps lower? 17:23 #navit: < jandegr> the first purpose was to answer the question of that trac ticket after some 4 years, why artifacts in the coastline ? 17:24 #navit: < tryagain> not for me :) 17:24 #navit: < jandegr> and since I also have rastermaps now , it does not have to be higher than 9 17:25 #navit: < tryagain> so it fits. What if we move coastlines to level10 or level11? 17:26 #navit: < jandegr> but for the rest it is up to navit' to choose the quality of the image that it wants to show to users 17:28 #navit: < jandegr> pls don't use one of those levels where we pin the routables in 17:28 #navit: <@KaZeR> my concern with the rastermaps is that it's only for android now. Are you planning to fork and put your own app in the playstore too? :) 17:29 #navit: < jandegr> I just follow the book kazer :) 17:29 #navit: <@KaZeR> haha 17:29 #navit: < jandegr> and I can't help it that linux can use rastermaps at least for the last 7 years, but you folks seem to keep it as a secret :) 17:30 #navit: < jandegr> and now finally it is for Android too, that's all 17:31 #navit: < tryagain> jandegr, why are you so concerned with routables? 17:31 #navit: < jandegr> and besides, I am not going to port my early 2000's work to navit if that was what you were tinking kazer :) 17:32 #navit: <@KaZeR> jandegr: that would solve the ticket about using navit in boats ! 17:32 #navit: < jandegr> should we not all be tryagain, is routing not THE key component of a nav-app ? 17:33 #navit: < jandegr> kazer, I thought you were applying for a membership in the local club ? 17:38 #navit: <@KaZeR> jandegr: considering :) 17:39 #navit: < tryagain> The deeper we put coastlines, the less they affect each and any navit performance. There's no magic in matching tile levels. If we put coastlines to tile order 18, we will see lowest possible performance impact. If we pull them to order 0, we'll have to process 300mb of coastline data for any map query. 17:42 #navit: < tryagain> your current change moves coastlines to level 9, which is below level 8 used for highways and on top of level 10 used for trunk roads. 17:42 #navit: < jandegr> coastlines are clipped to drop down to 14, but for the polygons they are reassembled and I saw some crawl up to 6 or 7 by themselves, so expect less effect from lowering the floor 17:43 #navit: < jandegr> indeed, I alternate decor with routables 17:47 #navit: < tryagain> we have some optimization on later stages to not keep tons of almost empty tiles. We just merge these tiles by moving items to upper levels. Can't it be the reason you see coastlines on levels 6-7? 17:51 #navit: < jandegr> I thought it was because of the part where it assembles siblings 17:55 #navit: < jandegr> and at one point I had plenty of debugging lines in that part of the code and I saw them crawl up there, so I thought ...... 18:28 #navit: < tryagain> jandegr i guess you have more knowledge on what's done in coastline.c than the rest of navit team 18:30 #navit: < jandegr> it is just a matter of spending nnn hours in that piece of the code, untill it starts to reveal something of itself :) 18:32 #navit: < tryagain> sure 18:59 #navit: < tryagain> KaZeR trac is not responsive 18:59 #navit: < tryagain> afk 19:13 -!- circleci-bot [~circleci-@ec2-54-147-196-174.compute-1.amazonaws.com] has joined #navit 19:13 #navit: < circleci-bot> Fixed: jandegr's build (#272; push) in navit-gps/navit (jandegr-maptool-europe) -- https://circleci.com/gh/navit-gps/navit/272 19:13 -!- circleci-bot [~circleci-@ec2-54-147-196-174.compute-1.amazonaws.com] has quit [Client Quit] 19:37 -!- _rd [~rd@pD9E7DAA8.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] has joined #navit 20:15 -!- woglinde [~henning@f052225187.adsl.alicedsl.de] has joined #navit 20:21 -!- jandegr [50c82e9b@gateway/web/freenode/ip.80.200.46.155] has quit [Quit: Page closed] 21:01 -!- _rd [~rd@pD9E7DAA8.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds] 21:13 -!- woglinde [~henning@f052225187.adsl.alicedsl.de] has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds] 21:45 #navit: <@KaZeR> tryagain: ha.. disk space runningn low 21:46 #navit: < tryagain> too many tickets? :) 21:51 #navit: <@KaZeR> haha. well trac actually eats up to 9.1GB currently. 22:18 -!- tryagain [~quassel@178.216.76.40] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 22:57 -!- xenos1984 [~xenos1984@43-29-196-88.dyn.estpak.ee] has quit [Quit: Leaving.] --- Log closed Fri Apr 17 00:00:23 2015
