07:21 #navit: < Jorgos> Hi all! I have one question, there is something i don't understand ;) I'm using navit on my embedded device with Linux. It is Linaro distro with 3.4.61 kernel. I have installed Navit with apt-get install navit. On both it seems like it is 0.5.0 version, but they are different. One supports polish language, and onscreen keyboard, the other not. I don't understand this difference ;)
07:23 #navit: < Jorgos> Sorry, i was rewriting message and forgot most important part: I have two copies of my linux, a bit different set of software installed, but both on the same kernel, and both are Linaro distros ;) but installed navit seems to have different functionality depending of which version it is installed on

10:53 #navit: < Marc0> Jorgos: what di you get by e.g. "apt-cache search navit"?
10:53 #navit: < Marc0> my list is somewhat longer than just one package
10:54 #navit: < Marc0> Ubuntu has also packages "maptool" or "navit-gui-internal"
10:54 #navit: < Marc0> maybe with Linaro happened sth similar
10:57 #navit: < Jorgos> Marc0: Thanks, i will try it within 2hrs. I have it in my car, and i don't have internet connection there (yet?)

13:06 #navit: < KaZeR> hi
13:08 #navit: < KaZeR> Jorgos: is you look in the about screen, you should get the navit git revision. this would help understanding what's going on
13:13 -!- Jorgos_ [c100c421@gateway/web/freenode/ip.193.0.196.33] has joined #navit
13:13 #navit: < KaZeR> hey Jorgos_
13:13 #navit: < Jorgos_> KaZeR: I see navit-svn 0.5.0 unknown- in about
13:13 #navit: < Jorgos_> but i tried to remove then reinstall and i see sth like this in console : Unpacking navit (from .../navit_0.5.0~svn4776+dfsg.1-3build1_armhf.deb
13:14 #navit: < Jorgos_> Hi KaZeR!
13:19 #navit: < KaZeR> the unknown part is odd. might be a quite old binary
13:19 #navit: < KaZeR> oh
13:19 #navit: < KaZeR> svn4776 ? you don't want to use that :)
13:20 #navit: < KaZeR> we switched to git around r5900. so this is a really old build
13:21 #navit: < KaZeR> this code is from 2011-09-10
13:21 #navit: < KaZeR> we need to contact the package manager for your distro
13:22 #navit: < KaZeR> Jorgos_: want some help in trying to build from source meanwhile?
13:24 #navit: < Jorgos_> KaZeR: Actually i don't have problems with building itself, more with running built application ;) I mean, I built navit, but I can't make it executable...
13:26 -!- jjelen_ [jjelen@nat/redhat/x-sgllgsfwmyhdqwby] has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
13:27 #navit: < KaZeR> ok Jorgos_. can you explain make it executable?
13:28 #navit: < Jorgos_> KaZeR: To make it able to run. I had some issues. I will try it again, and let you know. Anyway i was following that: http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Linux_development it says only about svn, is it compatibile with git you mention?
13:29 #navit: < KaZeR> it is compatible, we just need to update how to fetch the source. i'll do it.
13:29 -!- jonathanmaw [~jonathanm@82-70-136-246.dsl.in-addr.zen.co.uk] has quit [Quit: Ex-Chat]
13:31 #navit: < Jorgos_> Sure thank you. I will build it again (i did it last time month ago and then switched to install version because it was enough for my purposes) and then I will let you know
13:31 #navit: < KaZeR> ok great

13:33 #navit: < KaZeR> hey httpdss
13:33 #navit: < KaZeR> i saw your question regarding overlapping streets at differents layers. I'm not sure that there is an easy solution right now, but i'll look into it
13:41 #navit: < KaZeR> Jorgos_: updated the wiki to use git, please let me know if you have any issues
13:42 #navit: < httpdss> Thanks KaZeR !!
13:42 #navit: < Jorgos_> KaZeR: I have just finished build process, and application seems to work. I have to put my xml file and make some tests. I will let you know in 10 minutes ;)
13:42 #navit: < KaZeR> great
13:43 -!- mode/#navit [+o KaZeR] by ChanServ
13:45 -!- pini [~pini@bou-fi.pustule.org] has joined #navit
13:52 #navit: < Jorgos_> KaZeR: It seems to work pretty well, i have onscreen keyboard working, localization is ignored from xml nor command line (export LANG=pl_PL.UTF8 with error locale not supported by C library) and it prefers use /etc/navit/navit.xml instead of ~/.navit/navit.xml ... So anyway step forward;)
13:54 -!- pini [~pini@bou-fi.pustule.org] has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
13:55 #navit: <@KaZeR> so the locale not supported comes from your environment, not navit itself. usually you need to edit /etc/locale.gen, ensure to have pl_PL.UTF8 in it and run locale-gen
13:56 #navit: < Jorgos_> Have to go now. I will try it later today. Thanks for all your help!
13:57 #navit: <@KaZeR> np!

14:28 #navit: < gernot_> In cities with many details is a bit slow.

14:32 #navit: < robertp> hi
14:33 #navit: <@KaZeR> hi robertp
14:33 #navit: <@KaZeR> gernot_: thanks! i haven't got my hands on a pi3 yet. i am quite happy with my pi2 actually.
14:34 #navit: <@KaZeR> regarding cities and details : what layout are you using? maybe removing some POIs could help>
14:34 #navit: < robertp> Pi2 runs quite well. But I will test a Pi3 soon, too :D
14:34 #navit: < robertp> Even Pi B+ works well.
14:37 #navit: < robertp> Kazer, i threw some pictures into the wiki
14:38 #navit: < robertp> But I have no clue where to put them....

14:45 #navit: < gernot_> KaZeR: I used the default internal debian settings
14:46 #navit: < gernot_> Yes, the screen is flooded with parking and restaurant signes
14:53 #navit: < robertp> Gernot, you might change the layout to a less verbose OR edit the layout tags inside navit.xml
14:54 #navit: < jandegr> hi folks, don't forget we can toggle poi layers with a command, maybe a solution as well ?
14:54 #navit: < robertp> Here's an example for a cleaned standard layout: https://github.com/pohlinkzei/Pi_MFD_Layout/blob/master/navit.xml#L472
14:55 #navit: < gernot_> robertp: its just a test with the bog screen. i think about 5'' with lower resolution...
14:56 #navit: < robertp> I can recommend a 5" TFT with awesome 320x234px :D
14:56 #navit: < gernot_> I have a reduced layout for my tomtom
14:57 #navit: < gernot_> robertp: is it bright? (tomtom use 480x272)
15:00 #navit: < robertp> It's a joke. Sorry. It's mounted to an oem car navigation system.
15:02 #navit: < robertp> Could someone explain, how the attributes work, which can be acessed through commands? like command="layout=layout.daylayout" ?
15:03 #navit: <@KaZeR> gernot_: yeah we need to refresh the default layouts. they are useful on desktop, but too clutered on mobile
15:05 #navit: <@KaZeR> robertp: regarding https://github.com/pohlinkzei/Pi_MFD_Layout/blob/master/navit.xml#L472 : it would make sense in my opinion to store a few layouts in a distinctive file, and have our CI workflow build various screenshots of how they look like
15:06 #navit: <@KaZeR> this should not be complicated. we can discuss it more if you want to participate

15:08 #navit: <@KaZeR> ah, indeed.
15:09 #navit: < gernot_> deepth=deepth
15:09 #navit: < gernot_> sorry depth=depth+scale
15:10 #navit: < gernot_> so you can resice all names on the map resize with a singele setting
15:11 #navit: <@KaZeR> robertp: thanks for the pictures. did you get rid of all the chocolate? :)
15:11 #navit: < robertp> no, the cocolate is on top of the dashboard!
15:11 #navit: <@KaZeR> haha
15:11 #navit: < gernot_> but zjis is just an idea, I had to edit many lines
15:12 #navit: < gernot_> zjis=this
15:14 #navit: <@KaZeR> here's an example of what we could do to make layouts and osd sharing easier : https://github.com/pgrandin/navit-nuc-layout
15:15 #navit: <@KaZeR> if we package correctly the layouts, we can have circleci build the screenshots automatically, at different zoom levels, etc. The next step would be to have this automatically and easily downloadable via navit
15:16 #navit: <@KaZeR> if you guys are working on osd layouts or map layouts, this would be a good time to start pushing this. sharing via the wiki as we used to do doesn't work well
15:16 #navit: <@KaZeR> also robertp how do you change the OSD color?
15:17 #navit: <@KaZeR> (when switching from day to nigh)
15:17 #navit: < robertp> I use osd_configuration
15:17 #navit: < robertp> and have a image on the button
15:17 #navit: < robertp> play_wh and play_bk
15:18 #navit: < robertp> for example :D
15:18 #navit: < robertp> so i switch the config
15:18 #navit: <@KaZeR> but your captures show the text from the audio player in different colors too
15:18 #navit: < robertp> for the text fields and the compass i pushed an attribute to osd_core.c
15:19 #navit: < robertp>
15:19 #navit: < robertp> and
15:19 #navit: < robertp>
15:19 #navit: < robertp> and finally
15:20 #navit: < robertp>
