Using dbus requires 2 things : your own mobile application and a network connection between your pi and navit. It's not tedious, but it's not "easy" either. If you are writing your own app, it is a bit different then, and totally achievable. Are you going to send an address or a latitude/longitude from your app? 17:19 #navit: <+Navit> if you sent coordinates, this is what you need : https://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Dbus#set_destination it is used here for example : https://github.com/navit-gps/routing-qa/blob/master/test.py#L64 17:22 #navit: <+Navit> yes i will be writing my own app, i planned to send location names , rather than co-ordinates 17:23 #navit: <+Navit> but i see dbus takes co-ordinates in arguments. 17:24 #navit: <@KaZeR> yes, mostly because it can be difficult to geocode an address without validation. For example you could send an address with house numbers in an area where the coverage is poor. In that case your app might not be aware that the route is approximate 17:25 #navit: <+Navit> i am also aware of problem if user gives wrong names, than that comes with downloaded maps, unlike google maps navit doesnt have internet connection 17:27 #navit: <+Navit> maps comes with names of places and its co-ordinates i guess. i need to see how to grab co-ordinates from the location and then send to dbus interface , right? 17:30 #navit: <@KaZeR> > unlike google maps navit doesnt have internet connection 17:31 #navit: <@KaZeR> well it can if you want it to. I have code somewhere that queries googleplaces and foursquare for example. It's just that by default we want navit to be able to work fully offline 17:31 #navit: <@KaZeR> > i need to see how to grab co-ordinates from the location 17:31 #navit: <@KaZeR> what is your data source, in your custom application? 17:32 #navit: <+Navit> yes i too don't want to get it online. 17:32 #navit: <+Navit> My system doesnt require to get give navit internet access, 17:34 #navit: <+Navit> but just as navit keyboard smartly does, it removes possibility of wrong address 17:34 #navit: <+Navit> i would think of getting same in my andriod app, and then i would need a lookup table to map names with co-ordinates 17:35 #navit: <+Navit> and then push co-ordiantes via bluetooth to rpi, and then use dbus interface to notify navit of the destination 17:36 #navit: <+Navit> Do you see any problem with my above design @KaZeR 18:20 #navit: <@KaZeR> no, no problem. When you say bluetooth, do you mean via a network via bluetooth, having the phone in hotspot mode? 21:43 -!- Celelibi [celelibi@par69-9-88-166-81-29.fbx.proxad.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 268 seconds] 21:59 -!- Celelibi [celelibi@par69-9-88-166-81-29.fbx.proxad.net] has joined #navit 22:33 -!- Navit1 [~Navit@ec2-34-214-224-248.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com] has joined #navit 22:33 -!- mode/#navit [+v Navit1] by ChanServ 22:34 -!- basilic_ [~basilic@228-221-190-109.dsl.ovh.fr] has joined #navit 22:39 -!- basilic [~basilic@228-221-190-109.dsl.ovh.fr] has quit [Ping timeout: 268 seconds] 22:39 -!- Celelibi [celelibi@par69-9-88-166-81-29.fbx.proxad.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 268 seconds] 22:39 -!- Navit [~Navit@ec2-34-214-224-248.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com] has quit [Ping timeout: 268 seconds] 22:40 -!- Navit1 is now known as Navit 22:40 -!- Celelibi [celelibi@2a01:e35:8a65:11d0:215:afff:fe49:d5cd] has joined #navit 23:14 -!- xenos1984 [~xenos1984@22-164-191-90.dyn.estpak.ee] has quit [Quit: Leaving.] 23:35 -!- basilic_ [~basilic@228-221-190-109.dsl.ovh.fr] has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds] 23:35 -!- basilic [~basilic@228-221-190-109.dsl.ovh.fr] has joined #navit --- Log closed Tue Nov 20 00:00:17 2018
